PREPARING FOR YOUR FACIAL WAXING

Days Ahead

●       Allow for enough hair growth for the waxing to work effectively if you have plucked or shaved the area before your treatment. Hair length between ¼ inch and a ½ inch for best results.

●       Try to avoid using any active products such as retinol, retinoid, vitamin C or skin peels containing acid 4 to 7 days prior to your appointment. By stopping using these products in advance, you’ll be limiting your chances for skin irritation after the waxing is complete.

●       The softer your skin is, the better the results of the waxing treatment will be. The night before, we strongly recommend moisturizing your skin if you don’t already.

For Upper Lips, Cheeks & Sides

●       In the coming days, try to limit the number of cuts and blemishes on your face. However, you won’t want to over exfoliate your skin to avoid these. When you over exfoliate, your skin becomes aggravated, which then makes it more sensitive during the waxing treatment. So, the best course of action is to cleanse normally and to avoid picking at any blemishes that you may have leading up to the appointment.

Day Of

●       Limit or avoid how much sun you get, as direct sun exposure makes your skin more sensitive.

●       Cleanse your skin as you normally would, but don’t apply any creams or makeup to the areas that you are having waxed.

IS WAXING RIGHT FOR ME?

In general, waxing away unwanted hair is a perfectly suitable treatment for most candidates. However, those who have sensitive skin or who have frequent breakouts may want to avoid waxing.

If you take any of the following, you may want to consult your doctor before booking your appointment:

● Blood-Thinning Medications

● Oral Medication for Acne

● A Medicated Facial Exfoliant

BENEFITS OF WAXING

Target Large Areas

If you have hair over a large area that you want removed, waxing is one of the best options. In just one go, you can have a lot of hair removed whereas other options like threading and tweezing require more time and pain to achieve the same results.

Precision

Some commonly waxed areas, such as the brows and lips, require precision for a flawless look. Wax is not only more precise than other methods, but it is also more effective.

Long Lasting Results

Depending on the person and what their individual hair growth cycle is like, waxing can last somewhere between two and six weeks. When compared to bleaching or shaving, waxing still provides the best and longest-lasting results.

Less Hair Regrowth

Unlike other methods, waxing helps to prevent unwanted hairs from growing back. With each treatment you have, your hair follicle will experience damage. Over time, the end result can be total termination of hair growth in the waxed area. In most cases, though, you’ll notice that if hairs do return, they are much finer and less visible than they were when you first started getting wax treatments.

Low Cost

Waxing is a much cheaper option than lasering or threading. It taxes less time and fewer materials, which automatically puts waxing at a lower cost.

POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS

Everyone handles pain differently, and some clients may realize that they are very sensitive to waxing where others may not be. In general, waxing is often associated with a mild stinging sensation. Because the face is one of the more sensitive areas of the body, having some discomfort during waxing is very normal and to be expected. However, severe pain that lingers beyond your treatment is not customary, and it is at this point that you should seek medical attention.

For women who are interested in a waxing service, your pain tolerance is lower when you are pregnant or on your period. If you are generally sensitive to pain, having your waxing treatment during this period may help.

Skin Irritation & Redness

Unfortunately, some may discover after a waxing that they are sensitive to the treatment. Acne breakouts and allergic reactions do sometimes occur. Overall, those with very sensitive skin are discouraged from waxing as a precaution.

Redness is a normal reaction from waxing. If your skin gets red after your treatment, know that this is very common and that the redness should dissipate within the next 24 hours. If your skin becomes irritated after your waxing treatment, applying an aloe vera gel can help soothe the area. It’s also a good idea to moisturize your face as often as you can after the 24-hour period has ended.

Ingrown Hairs

Waxing disrupts the hair lining on the skin, so when your hair does eventually start to grow back, it may not always have a lining to guide the hair out of the skin. This can lead to ingrown hair. However, there are some steps you can take as a precaution:

● Stay out of direct sunlight

● Keep away from heat

● Do not use harsh cosmetics and makeup for 24-48 hours after the treatment

● Use a gentle exfoliant after the 48 hour period has passed
